Stages of treatment

Initial Consultation: Appointment scheduled with a radiation oncologist who will review your diagnosis and medical history to determine if proton therapy is the right treatment option for you.

CT Simulation: Following your consultation, you will be scheduled for a CT simulation. During this visit, the team will create custom immobilization devices to help ensure that you are positioned the same way during your daily treatments. A CT scan will also be performed and will be used to develop your treatment plan.

Personalized Treatment Planning: Your care team develops a customized treatment plan designed to deliver radiation directly to the tumor while minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy tissue.

Daily Treatment Sessions: Treatments will be delivered daily, typically Monday through Friday over the course of several weeks. Each visit includes careful positioning and imaging verification to ensure accuracy.

Follow-Up Care: After treatment is complete, ongoing follow-up appointments help monitor your progress, evaluate treatment response, and manage any long-term side effects

What to expect

A member of our care team will contact you once your treatment plan is complete and we are ready to schedule your first treatment. Treatment typically begins approximately 2–3 weeks after your CT simulation, depending on the complexity of your treatment plan. Treatments are generally scheduled daily, Monday through Friday for several weeks. Each appointment typically takes about 20 minutes for standard treatments, while more complex treatments may require additional time.

Proton therapy is painless, and most patients are able to continue working and participating in their usual physical activities throughout their treatment.
